Welcome our Made in Malaysia little panda Princess!

(Adapted from The Star paper)

Great news for the nation! In fact, it is a surprised! :D The two iconic giant pandas at Zoo Negara Malaysia have set a world record by being the first pair to naturally reproduce within a short period of time while in captivity. The female panda Liang Liang has delivered a Little Princess on 19/8/2015 at 2pm. The panda baby weights 175g and 5cm with the tail and the whole body with length 20cm. Can you imagine that such a little cute animal and would become a giant panda in years later?! You may see the picture above.

Malaysian Zoological Society Giant Panda Conservation Centre and veterinary services director Dr Mat Naim Ramli said it took eight to nine years for pandas in captivity to reproduce, but even that was usually done through artificial insemination.
“We have set a world record for having our pandas reproducing within a short period through natural breeding outside of China.
“This is definitely a big impact on the research done by China.
“We are even considering keeping Xing Xing’s sperm in a sperm bank,” he told reporters here yesterday.
Malaysia’s very own giant pandas – Liang Liang and Xing Xing – which were given on loan by China, arrived in Malaysia on May 21 last year.
Their arrival marked a 40-year celebration of diplomatic ties between both countries.
The pair from Chengdu, China, was loaned through the Giant Panda International Conservation Cooperation Agreement Programme.
Previously, there were concerns that the pair were not hitting it off despite attempts at mating.
He said ovulation occurred on May 7 and they monitored Liang Liang by observing her behaviour, checking blood hormone levels, genital physical changes as well as vaginal cytology.
“We suspected she was pregnant on Aug 7 as her progesterone level was high, so we tried to take another blood test the following week, but she did not allow us to do so,” Mat Naim said.
Mat Naim said the birth was unexpected by Zoo Negara as they thought it was a pseudo pregnancy, where a panda displays behaviour of being pregnant but is not.
He said Liang Liang had acted the same way some time in June last year.
On Tuesday, nine-year-old Liang Liang gave birth to a female cub weighing 175g, measuring 20cm, at around 1.45pm at the conservation centre. The gestation period was 104 days.
Both mother and baby were doing well, said Mat Naim.
“Liang Liang is very motherly and she is very protective of her cub.
“We could only separate the baby from the mother for four minutes to quickly weigh, measure the height and determine the sex.
“We are confident Liang Liang will make a good mother and can take care of the cub as she has given birth previously.
“She raised the first baby on her own and we hope she does the same.
“We feel there are better chances of survival with her taking care of the cub,” he said.
Coincidentally, Liang Liang’s first baby, Gong Gong, a male, was also born on the same date as his sister two years ago and is now at the Dujiangyan panda base in Sichuan province.
Mat Naim said both mother and daughter would be quarantined for two months before the public is allowed to view them.
He said that once Liang Liang was ready to leave her cub alone, the infant would be placed in a nursery room for public viewing.
He said the cub would be in Malaysia for two years before being sent back to China.
Zoo Negara deputy president Rahmat Ahmat Lana said children below 12 accompanied by their parents would be allowed in free on the first day when both mother and child were ready to be displayed.

I am really grateful to Angela for her mail. I am yet to reply to Angela but I will write to her soon. I wish that I could meet Angela in person someday as I think it would be a nice meet up for us since we have exchanged letters for 2 years already.

Lastly, I would like to thank Mary, Tracy and Angela for their mails again and whenever I receive mail(s), it makes my day. Thus, a big THANK YOU to all of you. May God bless you all!!! πŸ˜€

OMG! Earthquake in Sabah, Malaysia!

After I got up from the bed in this morning, I checked my FB and  I saw one of my ex-colleagues who is from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, posted a message that she was experiencing earthquake in the early morning before she went to work.

I was shocked to see her posting. Then i was checking the news online and OMG! Malaysia was having the earthquake at Sabah's west coast with magnitute 5.9 hit near Ranau district. It is a town near the capital city of Sabah, Kota Kinabalu with about 54km away. It was happened at 7:15am.

Gosh, i was shocked with the news as I have never imagined that earthquake would be happening in my country. Luckily my ex-colleague is alright and did not hurt, I hope. Anyway, according to the news reported, the tremors shook buildings and rattled windows prompting people to run out from their houses, shops, and even at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport terminal.

There are about 190 people/climbers trapped on the Mt. Kinabalu after the earthquake. I wish all those people would be safe and would get rescue at soonest possible.

Another bad case is that after the earthquake, the iconic Donkey's Ear Peak at Mt. Kinabalu has been destroyed. The twin peak landmark resembling a pair of donkey's ears has been badly damaged, with the top of one of the peaks falling off in the tremors.

Lastly, I prayed for the people in Sabah are all safe and wish that there would not be second wave of quake again. May God bless all of us!!!

The Surprised Asian Postcards Received in May 2015!!!

I have received 2 surprised Asian postcards in the month of May. The 2 postcards are sent from Hong Kong and Japan. Both of the postcards are very lovely.

The Japanese postcard is sent by Katuya. She is a lady who is learning the Chinese language. The postcard that she sent to me is pasted with the stamp of Doraemon, which is my 1st favourite cartoon character. Doraemon comic is also my first comic reading series since I was about 8 years old. Anyway, I would like to thank Katuya for the postcard.

The next postcard is from Fonni, Hong Kong. It is a postcard with the view of  the HK famous food, i.e. the Pineapple Bun. It is soft, sweet bun topped by crunchy crust. When served, a chunk of cold butter is stuffed into the bun. Basically, it contains no pineapple. It is called pineapple bun because its checkered crust resembles the skin of a pineapple.

I have tasted this bun when I visited Hong Kong last time. It is indeed very delicious! :D Anyway, I would like to thank Fonni for the "yummy" postcard! :)

Lastly, I want to say THANK YOU to both Fonni and Katuya again. Arigato gozaimasu! Xiexie! !

My New Aussie Pen-Pal! !!

Good day! This is the greetings words of the people from Aussie land. Yes, I have a new pen-pal from the Down Under, Australia. Her name is Tracy. She is from New South Wales. Tracy has surprised me with her letter in February. She has met me via the website "A Month of Letters" (LetterMo) campaign.

Both of us have participated the LetterMo campaign for 2 years. From this campaign, I have met some pen-pals from different countries, eg. Sweden. Australia, UK. It is fun to write the letters in handwritten instead of typing.

Tracy has written to me by introduced herself. She is a mother of 3 children and both of us are having same hobbies, like pen-palling, reading and exchanging postcards. Tracy has never visit my country, so she would like to know more about Malaysia.

I have replied to Tracy last week and introduced her about my beautiful country, and given her a recipe. I hope she would like it. I am looking forward to receive Tracy's reply and hope that we could be long-term pen-pals. :)

Niece's 15th Birthday on 15/5/2015!!!

Time flies! In last year, about 3 months before my dearest niece's birthday, I was asking my friends from locally and overseas for the Beatles's stuff, eg. cards, posters, etc.. as my niece is a big fan of The Beatles. She is still their fan now. Anyway, in last year, I really appreciate the favour of the friends who have sent the stuff of the Beatles to my niece and she really was surprised for her birthday! You may refer to the "A Surprise to My Lovely Niece!" which I posted in last year! :P

Anyway, yesterday was the 15th birthday of my dearest niece, YC. However, I did not give any surprises to her in this year. I only given her a lovely birthday card. Then my family and I dined at the Japanese restaurant called Sushi Tei to celebrate her 15th birthday. By the way, YC is a girl who likes to eat Japanese food! Hehe! :P

We have ordered few types of sets, for example, Soba noodle, Udon noodle, Sukiyaki, friend chicken cutlets, beef, salmons, Yakitori don set, etc.. We all were enjoying the meal very much and in the end all of us were felt very fulfilling. Then We bought a piece of cheese and chocolate cake for my niece, YC as her birthday. The pictures below show our meal.

Overall, this was how we celebrated YC's 15th birthday. As her aunt, I would like to wish YC "Happy Birthday" again and all her wish would come true. On the other hand, I am also wishing her to have happiness always, stay in good health and to become a good, smart and an elegant girl.

Lastly, I would like to tell my dearest YC that all of us in the family are loving her very much. I would be always by her side if she requires any favours! ! I love you, YC!!! 😊
