Helicobacter Pylori (H. pylori)

I have found out that my aunt has infected the helicobacter pylori and has been admitted in the hospital for 2 days in yesterday. This reminds of myself with the same when I was also infected the helicobacter pylori in Year 2009 and admitted in the hospital. Thus, I would like to blog about helicobacter pylori now.

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is the bacteria responsible for most ulcers and many cases of stomach inflammation (chronic gastritis). The bacteria can weaken the protective coating of the stomach, allowing digestive juices to irritate the sensitive stomach lining.

According to the doctor, many people are infected with H.pylori. Those living in developing countries or crowded, unsanitary conditions are most likely to contract the bacterium, which is passed from person to person. H. pylori only grows in the stomach, and is usually contracted during childhood.

The symptoms of H.pylori are as below :-

• Abdominal pain
• Bloating and fullness
• Dyspepsia or indigestion
• Feeling very hungry 1 to 3 hours after eating
• Mild nausea (may be relieved by vomiting)

Simple blood, breath, and stool tests can determine if we are infected with H. pylori. I did the Urea Breath Test (UBT) last time. In this test, I have to drink a glass of water, and before that I have to rinse my mouth. After that I blew into a paper bag. Then this paper bag would be sent to the lad for the test to determine if H. pylori is infected.

Once the person has been confirmed with infection of H. Pylori, treatment must be taken from the gastrologist. Treatment must be taken for 10 to 14 days. Medications are the antibiotics. Some patients would recover after the course of treatment; however, some would be having side effects from the medications. I was one of the unlucky ones that was having side effects from the medications. I was kept on vomiting after taking the medications until I became restless and very weak. I was having such problem for 5 days until I went to see the doctor and told him my problem. The specialist then told me that I was having side effects of the medications and it was not the normal thing for consuming the medications. So, I have to admit into the hospital and change to another type of antibiotics for my treatment. Guess what, I was in the hospital for 4 days 3 nights. 

Normally patients only required to take the course of treatment and then recovered. For me, I had to admit into hospital for the treatment and moreover I was suffered so much for the side effects! I really was an unlucky person! 

Therefore, when I know that my aunt was infected with H. pylori and been admitted, I know how she was felt.In order to prevent the infection of H. pylori, we must have a clean and germ-free environment. This may help to decrease the risk of H. pylori infection.
